Van Horebeek takes 6th in USA GP
01/06/2010Jeremy Van Horebeek and his CLS Kawasaki team joined up with the Pro Circuit Kawasaki Team in the USA to battle out the first USA GP in the last 11 years. Arriving in California earlier this week allowed the ‘Jerre’ to meet up with the team and head to some local practice tracks giving some extra acclimatizing before the big event.
In Saturday’s qualifying race Van Horebeek showed his speed and ability early as he rode a superb race, qualifying in 2nd place.
The gate dropped for moto 1 on Sunday and as the 250F machines powered down the long start straight the number 89 Kawasaki was just inside the top 10. The wide open circuit with long hills and the high temperatures made for a tough race, but the ‘Jerre’ gave it everything, eventually crossing the line to take 5th position.
Moto 2 got underway with almost a replay of the opening moto start for Van Horebeek, but this time a mistake on lap 2 left the ‘Jerre’ on the floor. Quickly getting going the CLS Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider was relegated to 14th position. Getting back into a smooth rhythm Van Horebeek soon set charge on the riders ahead and managed to fight back to 8th place by the finish, awarding the young Belgian 6th overall for the day.
“We had so much support from everyone at Pro Circuit this week, they really did everything they could to host us in their country, so that made the whole trip a great experience. The racing was a little frustrating, in qualifying I was 2nd and then in the Sunday morning warm-up I was also fast again, but then in both main races I got bad starts and had to battle through. I feel like I have the speed every week but at the moment it doesn’t reflect in my results.” Commented Van Horebeek.
Next week the GP stars all head to France for round 7 of the World Championship taking place on the 6th June.
