The ‘Jerre’ fast in Italian GP

13/04/2010

After a solid start to his 2010 MX2 World Championship campaign in Bulgaria last weekend, CLS Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider Jeremy Van Horebeek travelled to Italy this past weekend to contest the 2nd round in the series. Held at the notoriously rough and rutted circuit of Mantova, the ‘Jerre’ looked forward to battling it out once again.

In the short Saturday qualifier, Van Horebeek looked very comfortable on the bike as he crossed the line in 5th position behind team mate Frossard.

Sunday morning began with a little rain, but the sandy circuit soon soaked it up as the MX2 riders lined up on the line. The gate dropped and heading through the first turn in 6th position the ‘Jerre’ was on the gas and pushing hard as ever. Scrubbing every jump and railing every corner Van Horebeek screamed his Kawasaki up to 4th position by the chequered flag, racking up the points.

Moto 2 was another good start for the ‘Jerre’ rounding out lap one in 7th place. Once again Van Horebeek was taking no prisoners as he set chase on the leading pack, but on lap 3 disaster struck, whilst making a pass for 5th the ‘Jerre’ whipped his bike out and it caught Simpson’s KTM mid-air throwing the number 89 machine to the floor very hard and bending the front end f the bike. Re-mounting and having to head into the pits to repair the bike put the Belgian right back down in the field of riders, but a gutsy performance saw Van Horebeek ultimately cross the line in 18th position, awarding him 9th overall for the day.

‘I was satisfied with my fourth position in the opening race even though I suffered a little with arm pump. My start was not so good in the second race, but I felt much more comfortable and charged back to 5th position behind Simpson after a few laps; I was looking to pass him over a jump but my rear wheel slipped out just before the take-off and I crashed when I landed. I had to stop at the pits to straighten my front wheel, and then I just concentrated on captured a few points. It was a frustrating mistake, and I will be looking forward to making up for it at the GP in Valkenswaard in two weeks time.’ Commented Van Horebeek after the event.
