Van Horebeek mixes it up in Keiheuvel sand.

17/08/2009

Jeremy Van Horebeek  has rubbed elbows with a star studded GP field at the Balen-Keiheuvel Belgian championship over the weekend.  The KTM Junior Factory rider,  racing on a lighter KTM250F, held his own among the more powerful  450cc open class machines under blue sunny skies and a great turnout of spectators.

In Moto 1 van Horebeek grabbed a good start and set a strong pace throughout the 20 minute + 1 lap moto. Van Horebeek  hounded  Manuel Priem right to the chequered flag too finish 10th with only 1 second separating the two Belgians.

Another good start by ‘The Jerre’ saw him battling for a top ten position with track conditions now becoming rougher.  A mistake by Cairoli towards the end of the moto saw the Italian have to rejoin the race behind Van Horebeek.  Jeremy had no intention of giving up his position and kept Cairoli at bay right to the finish line to secure 10th spot again.

The final and deciding moto would turn out to be a great battle for Van Horebeek.  After a great start he battled with Josh Coppins for 6th spot before an unfortunate coming together with Russian rider Evgeny Bobryshev would leave Van Horebeek on the ground. Try as he could, Van Horebeek could not re-start his machine and had to retire to the side-lines.

“I really enjoyed today and had some good speed against the 450 guys.  My starts were great and I was excited about a good result in the third moto when Bobryshev and I touched and I went down.  I think the fans enjoyed the racing today and I look forward to coming back next year to the Keiheuvel.” said Van Horebeek.

‘The Jerre’ will take part in the Everts and Friends charity race
www.evertsandfriends.com in Genk next weekend before heading to the penultimate round of the MX2 World championship series in Lierop on the 31 August.
