Jeremy Van Horebeek takes a hard knock in France

08/06/2009

Reaching the mid way point in the 2009 MX2 World Championship, Jeremy Van Horebeek made the journey to Ernee in France this weekend, as one of the few non French riders capable of running up front in this year’s MX2 class.
Saturday’s short qualifying race saw the ‘Jerre’ get a good start, rounding up the opening lap in 6th position. Unfortunately fighting for 4th position on lap 3 Van Horebeek made a mistake and went down. Quickly re-mounting, the KTM Factory Junior rider put on a charge to get back through to 15th position by the chequered flag, salvaging a reasonable gate pick for Sunday.
In Heat 1 the ‘Jerre’ was pretty quick out the gate, and up in 12th position on the opening lap. Whilst charging hard and up to 10th position on lap 6, Van Horebeek struck bad luck when French rider Nioco Aubin jumped skew and landed on his hand in mid air. In too much pain to continue racing the ‘Jerre’ had no choice but to pull out the race and seek medical attention.
Still unsure as to the extent of his injuries, the determined Belgian made the call to start Heat 2 with the hope of at least scoring some World Championship points. Riding in a lot of pain Van Horebeek managed to complete the race, eventually crossing the finish line in a well deserved 11th position.
The ‘Jerre’ had this to say at the end of a painful day: “In qualifying and the warm up today I felt very good. Then in that first heat Aubin slipped and jumped onto my hand, which left me on the floor and unable to even hold onto the bike to rejoin the race. In the second moto I just had to try and keep it smooth and just finish the race. Tommorrow I will get my specialist to check it all out, but hopefully my hand is just badly knocked and not broken!”
Round 9 of the World Motocross Championship takes place in Germany in 2 weeks time on the 20-21st June.
