A tough weekend in Portugal for Van Horebeek
10/05/2009Young Belgian motocross star Jeremy Van Horebeek along with the highly regarded Factory KTM Junior Team made the journey to Agueda in Portugal this weekend with the aim of gaining vital points in the MX2 World Championship.
In Saturday’s short qualifying race the ‘Jerre’ showed his amazing speed and style as he flung his KTM 250SXF around the jumpy hard pack circuit to finish in a strong 4th position, showing his great adaptability to the differing track conditions that the World Championship presents.
Getting great drive out the gates for heat 1 Jeremy was up towards the front of the charging MX2 pack exiting turn 1. Closing up lap 1 in 7th position Van Horebeek was pushing hard as he held his own in this star studded field of riders. Holding off attacks from the competition whilst focusing on the track ahead Jeremy held his 7th position until 3 laps from the end when he came to a stop on the side of the track with a technical fault, putting end to his heat 1 chase.
Not allowing his bad luck from heat 1 to distract him the talented young Belgian blasted out the gates for heat 2 desperate to try and claw back some of the lost points. Fighting hard Jeremy was in 10th position in the initial stages of the race, however unable to hold off the charging Italian, Lupino, and Frenchman, Boog, Van Horebeek dropped to 12th position on lap 9, the position he then held until the checkered flag.
“The racing today didn’t go my way. Heat one felt pretty good, although the pace was fast, but then I had problems and stopped. Then in race 2 the bike was really good but I just couldn’t hold the speed. I really struggled to get a good smooth rhythm out there and the results show that.” Explained a slightly down beat Jeremy Van Horebeek.
Van Horebeek will travel to Spain for round 6 of the 15 round series next weekend
