The ‘Jerre’ back on track.
26/04/2009Having missed the last Motocross Grand Prix in Turkey with a shoulder injury, a well rested Jeremy Van Horebeek was back on track this weekend at round 4 of the World Championship which took place at the famous Valkenswaard race circuit in the Netherlands.
Back under the professional orange awning of the KTM Factory Junior Team it was clear from the off on Saturday that Jeremy felt good on the bike as he was putting in some very fast laps in the morning practice. The same fast pace continued in the 20 minute and 2 lap qualifying race as Jeremy went from 8th on lap one up to a fantastic 4th position at the finish line giving him a great gate pick for the 2 main races on Sunday.
The first heat on Sunday was not the start the 2 x Belgian Champ was looking for as a crash in the beginning of the race put an annoyed Van Horebeek down in 20th position at the end of the opening lap. Pushing hard Jeremy crashed again on lap 3 putting him right back to 37th position and no real hope of any points. Trying to salvage some sort of a result the frustrated Belgian continued to ride hard and crossed the finish line in 24th position at the end of the 35 minute and 2 lap race.
Wanting to make amends for the terrible result in heat 1, Jeremy leaped his KTM out the gate in heat 2 getting a great start, battling elbow to elbow through the first few turns. Rounding up lap 1 in 7th position the young KTM rider was on the gas and showing his amazing style in the deep sand. Notching up a number of fast laps the ‘Jerre’ was able to claw himself up to 5th position, crossing the finish line for an amazing top 5 finish just a few weeks after being sidelined with injury.
Jeremy commented on a tough race: “After 20 minutes in that last race I was done, having not raced the last few weeks made it really hard today. I have not even been able to train as hard as usual because of the injured shoulder. I am very happy to be back racing again and look forward to some more good results in the coming Grand Prix rounds. We had some improvements on the bike for this weekend and hopefully this week we can test even more and make it even better.”
Vanhorebeek will contest a round of the French Elite MX championship this Friday before heading to Agueda Portugal a week later for round 5 of the FIM MX World championship.
